As a Senior Director - Scientific Officer, Michelle Reniere collaborates in administering the HHMI Investigator Program and liaises with HHMI Investigators, their laboratories, and the host institution. Her host site assignments can be found here. Reniere also helps guide and manage programs that support early career scientists including the Cech Fellows Program, which she oversees. 

BIO

Reniere joined HHMI in 2025, coming from the University of Washington where she serves as an Associate Professor of Microbiology. Reniere studies the mechanisms by which bacterial pathogens sense their environment to cause disease, and how hosts detect these invaders.  

Reniere earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Microbiology & Immunology from Vanderbilt University. She completed her postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley before joining the faculty at the University of Washington in 2016.
