HHMI Professors are reforming the way undergraduate science is taught and how new scientists are developed at research universities through innovative teaching that demonstrates the rigor and value of scientific research, new education and training resources, expansion and enhancement of research opportunities for undergraduates, and novel mentoring programs to support students.

Since the program began in 2002, nearly 70 scientists have been named HHMI Professors. In addition to their commitment to scientific mentoring and student learning, these accomplished scientists have built and sustain a vibrant community of science education innovators and advocates committed to sharing ideas and collaborating with their peers to improve science education broadly.

After their initial five-year grants, HHMI professors have continued to come together to promote the integration of scientific research into every aspect of science education.
