Physiology and Function of Pulmonary Sensory Circuits

Yin Liu investigates the cellular mechanisms and neural circuits that underlie body-brain interactions, with a focus on the respiratory system. Liu and her team are particularly interested in the physiology and function of peripheral sensory neurons that innervate the lungs and regulate their function. They are exploring how pulmonary sensory neurons detect and encode endogenous and exogenous signals and how the information they transmit is integrated and processed in the central nervous system. In addition, the team wants to understand how the neural circuits mediating lung-brain interaction remodel under pulmonary diseases and regulate disease pathophysiology.
