Chromatin Regulation in Development and Disease

Gerald Crabtree wants to understand the role of chromatin regulation in development and disease. Working in humans and mice, Crabtree and his team use genetics and genomics to understand the mechanisms used in chromatin regulation and how they go wrong in human disease. They design and synthesize small molecules that rapidly and reversibly activate or inhibit chromatin regulatory mechanisms, thereby allowing precise kinetic analysis of the mechanisms and their functions. Their findings are providing insights into fundamental biological processes as well as the treatment of cancer and neurologic disorders.
