Kyle Card is using bacteria from various stages of the seminal E. coli long-term evolution experiment (LTEE) – which has tracked bacterial evolution over more than 70,000 generations – to examine how bacteria’s evolutionary history, together with population size and mutation rates, contribute to the evolution of antibiotic resistance and associated fitness costs.
