Ocean biodiversity is also threatened by human activities. But because the ocean is huge and has highly diverse environments, marine organisms appear to be more resilient than land animals when threatened by extinction and can bounce back with modest conservation efforts.
"I use Steve Palumbi's lecture 'Extreme Life of the Sea' as a context-setting activity with my 9th grade environmental class. They thoroughly enjoyed it. Even kids who have difficulty paying attention were engaged. The best part though was that, as they were leaving, one girl was overheard to say, 'I would love to attend one of those lectures.' That speaks volumes."
