As chief of facilities, safety, and security, Cho oversees facilities planning, design and construction, facilities operations, and safety and security at HHMI’s headquarters and Janelia Research Campus. Cho provides expertise and serves as a strategic thought partner to HHMI leadership regarding planning and decision-making involving HHMI’s facilities management and safety and security environments.

Cho joined HHMI in January 2021 as senior director of planning, facilities operations, and safety and security. Prior to joining HHMI, Cho was director of construction and planning at Johns Hopkins University’s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences where he oversaw all construction, planning, and operations activities with a focus on natural science research facilities and their ongoing operational and spatial needs. Cho previously served as director of facilities administration at University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, where he was responsible for management of three regional research laboratory campuses, and held positions at University of Maryland, College Park, and Salisbury University in Maryland.

Cho earned a BA in architecture from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and a master of architecture (MArch) degree from University of Maryland, College Park.
