As chief of business solutions, Palmisano is responsible for strategic direction and management of business solutions for all areas of the Institute; this includes program and portfolio management as well as business, collaboration, science, and investment capabilities. He serves as a member of HHMI’s operations team, charged with advancing operational success across the organization.

Palmisano joined HHMI in November 2015 as vice president of information technology (IT) after serving in many IT leadership roles during his long career with the Gannett Company in McLean, VA. Palmisano started his career as a computer programmer and had progressive roles in the Gannett corporate systems department. In 1991, Palmisano became vice president of IT at USA TODAY, Gannett’s flagship national newspaper, and served as the organization’s senior technology member overseeing all aspects of business and publishing technology management for more than twenty years. Beginning in 2011, Palmisano led a series of technology modernization initiatives at Gannett Company to advance enterprise-level capabilities in publishing, distribution, data analytics, and billing. Palmisano received a bachelor’s degree in business management, with concentrations in computer science and accounting, from St. John Fisher College, in Rochester, NY.
