As vice president and chief financial and operating officer, Cronin oversees all operational functions and departments, including Finance, Business Solutions, Operations Services, Communications, and People and Culture, as well as Administrative Operations and Facilities at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus. In this role, Cronin serves as a strategic partner to the president’s office and other members of HHMI’s senior leadership team and is responsible for reporting to HHMI’s Board of Trustees on the status and strategies of operations and budget. Cronin also serves as Treasurer.

Cronin joined HHMI in July 2020 after managing a broad range of operations functions at higher education institutions. Prior to joining HHMI, Cronin served as the senior associate dean for finance and administration at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) where he oversaw the finance, budget, accounting, human resources, information technology, and facilities needs of the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Before joining JHU in 2012, Cronin held various leadership positions at George Washington University, including assistant dean for administration and director of finance and personnel. Prior to this, he served as a lecturer and assistant dean at University of Maryland, College Park.

Cronin received a bachelor’s degree in human resource management, a master’s degree in business administration, and a PhD in communication from University of Maryland, College Park.
