Dr. Venclovas received his Ph.D. in mathematical and computational biology in 1993 from Moscow State University in Russia. He did postdoctoral work in the United States at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology and at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He then held the title of scientist of the Biology and Biotechnology Research Program at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he received an Achievement Award. His HHMI-funded research is being conducted at the Institute of Biotechnology in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he heads the Laboratory of Bioinformatics. This is his second HHMI International Research Scholar award.
RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Česlovas Venclovas works on the development and application of computational methods to study protein structure, function, and interactions. He focuses mainly on proteins functioning in DNA metabolism and control of the cell cycle.
