Dr. Salter is a scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and a professor in the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto. He received his M.D. in 1982 from the University of Western Ontario and his Ph.D. in 1987 from McGill University. He did postdoctoral work in the Playfair Neuroscience Unit of Toronto Western Hospital, as well as at the Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Toronto. In 2004 he was named Canada Research Chair in Neuroplasticity and Pain and, in 2005, he was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Michael Salter is interested in identifying and characterizing the cellular and molecular signaling processes that cause neuroplasticity and in applying this knowledge to the management of chronic pain in humans.
