Dr. Pravenec is chief of laboratory of the Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague. He also holds a position in the Institute of Biology and Medical Genetics, First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University, Prague. He obtained his Ph.D. in genetics in 1987 and his D.Sc. in 2001 from the Institute of Molecular Genetics. He pursued postdoctoral research training at the Research Institute of the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital at the University of Montreal, Canada, and at the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California–San Francisco. This is his third HHMI International Research Scholar grant.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Michal Pravenec conducts integrated transcriptional profiling and linkage analysis of cardiovascular diseases in animal models to search for the molecular basis underlying these pathologic conditions.
