Dr. Klimašauskas is Senior Staff Scientist and Head of the Laboratory of Biological DNA Modification at the Institute of Biotechnology, Vilnius, Lithuania. He received his Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry from the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis and his D. Habil. in 1998 from the Biomedical Research and Study Center, University of Latvia. He was a Visiting Scientist in structural biology at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor, New York and a Visiting Professor at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, Japan. In 1998 he received the award of Research Fellowship of the Highest Degree from the Republic of Lithuania and later the National Science Prize of Lithuania. This is his second HHMI International Research Scholar award.
