Dr. Goldbaum is Director of the Leloir Institute, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and researcher of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). He received a Ph.D. in immunology in 1992 from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He went on to do postdoctoral work in the Department of Structural Immunology at the Center for Advanced Research in Biotechnology, University of Maryland. In 2004 he received the AMSUD-Pasteur Prize BIOTECH 2004 for the development of a new technology for vaccine design and he received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship in 2008. This is his second HHMI International Research Scholar award.
RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Using a multidisciplinary approach involving genetic, microbiologic, biochemical, biophysical, and structural analyses, Fernando Goldbaum studies the role of riboflavin metabolism on bacterial virulence as well as the sensor and regulator molecules involved in sensing oxygen and redox levels of Brucella spp.
