Dr. Concha is associate professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Chile in Santiago, where he received his M.D. in 1992 and his Ph.D. in 1998. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow and later was an honorary research fellow in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology of the University of London, University College, London. He has received two Wellcome Trust awards: an International Traveling Research Fellowship and an International Research Development Award. He received a national award from the Andes Foundation and a grant from the Third World Academy of Sciences. He is currently director of a Research Ring in Neural Development and Genetics sponsored by the Chilean Technology and Science Bicentennial Programme.

Miguel Concha studies the genetic and morphogenetic mechanisms that control the development of left-right asymmetry in the vertebrate brain.
