A New Scientific Community
Janelia Group Leaders: Intellectual Pioneers
Janelia group leaders are imaginative, bold researchers whose primary responsibility is generating new ideas and bringing them to fruition. The environment at Janelia Farm Research Campus (JFRC) fosters scientific interaction through small research groups that can explore fundamental biomedical questions in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary culture. Group leaders come from many scientific disciplines ranging from physics, chemistry, engineering, and computer science to biophysics, molecular biology, and genetics.
Researchers at Janelia are freed from most of the administrative, grant writing, and teaching duties that consume time at a university. This, and the fact that individual groups are small, allows the group leaders to be hands-on scientists who are able to spend most of their days working at the bench or engaging in collaborative discussions.
Janelia Fellows: Independently Intellectual
Janelia Fellows are early career stage scientists with little or no prior postdoctoral work. They can also be experienced researchers who want to change research direction or accomplished scientists, who after an accomplished career in academia or industry, want to return to an environment highly focused on the conduct of research rather than administrative duties.
In every instance the fellows represent what is most basic at Janelia: scientific interaction and collaboration.
