Dr. Valle is also Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Ophthalmology, and Biology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree in zoology and his medical degree from Duke University. His internship and residency in pediatrics were completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. His postdoctoral research in metabolism was done at NIH. Dr. Valle was recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
David Valle is interested in identifying the genes involved in human inborn errors of metabolism, retinal degenerations, and peroxisomal biogenesis and function. His studies are aimed at understanding the causes of these disorders, how to treat them, and what they tell us about normal biology.
