Richard D. Palmiter, Ph.D.

Dr. Palmiter is also Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle. He received a A.B. degree from Duke University and a Ph.D. degree from Stanford University. Prior to moving to the University of Washington, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University with Robert Schimke, at G.D. Searle Research Laboratories in England with Norman Carey, and at Harvard University with Fotis Kafatos. Dr. Palmiter is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Association of Arts and Sciences.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Richard Palmiter uses genetic techniques to disable neurotransmitter functions in mice to understand how and where these signaling molecules act in the brain to regulate various behaviors.
