Dr. O'Connor is Professor of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and holds the Ordway Chair in Developmental Biology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He received his B.S. degree in biochemistry from Brown University and his Ph.D. degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. His postdoctoral studies were conducted in the laboratory of Welcome Bender at Harvard Medical School. Prior to moving to the University of Minnesota, Dr. O'Connor was Professor of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Michael O'Connor's research is focused on elucidating mechanisms that regulate pattern formation and hormone production in Drosophila. He studies genes that modulate the function of TGFβ-type signals as a paradigm for cell-cell signaling mechanisms, and genes that regulate ecdysone biosynthesis as a model for how steroid hormones control the timing of developmental processes.
