Dr. Nathans is also Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Neuroscience, and Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His undergraduate degrees were in chemistry and biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Nathans received a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and an M.D. degree from Stanford Medical School and was a postdoctoral fellow at Genentech. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Jeremy Nathans uses molecular genetic approaches to study the physiology and development of the retina and to understand the mechanisms of human retinal diseases. He is also investigating the molecular mechanisms of complex pattern formation during animal development.
