Dr. Modrich is also James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry at Duke University Medical Center. He received a B.S. degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Stanford University, where he worked with Robert Lehman on DNA ligase. He did postdoctoral work on DNA replication with Charles Richardson at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Modrich is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a recipient of the Pfizer Award in enzyme chemistry from the American Chemical Society, the General Motors Mott Prize in cancer research, the Pasarow Foundation Award in cancer research, and the American Cancer Society Medal of Honor for basic research.
