Dr. Lowe is Professor of Pathology and Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor in Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and Adjunct Professor in the Glycobiology Program at the Burnham Institute, La Jolla. He received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Wyoming and his M.D. degree from the University of Utah College of Medicine, Salt Lake City. He was trained in clinical pathology at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, and did postdoctoral research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He was later Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine at Washington University and also served as Assistant Medical Director of the Barnes Hospital blood bank before moving to Michigan. Dr. Lowe is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
John Lowe is interested in defining the functions of glycan molecules expressed at the surface of mammalian cells and studying how these molecules control cell adhesion and signaling processes.
