Dr. Hogan is Hortense B. Ingram Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University, England, and carried out postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before moving to the United States, she was head of the Laboratory of Molecular Embryology, first at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and then at the National Institute of Medical Research in London. Dr. Hogan is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization and the Institute of Medicine.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Brigid Hogan is interested in the molecular mechanisms regulating the growth, differentiation, and patterning of the mouse embryo. Of particular interest are genes involved in the elaboration of complex organs from small, undifferentiated rudiments, and the development of primordial germ cells.
