Dr. Gitschier is Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. She received her B.S. degree in engineering science from Pennsylvania State University, her M.S. degree in applied physics from Harvard University, and her Ph.D. degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Gitschier did postdoctoral research on hemophilia with Richard Lawn at Genentech before joining the faculty at the University of California.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Jane Gitschier studies how heavy metals are transported in mammalian cells and tissues, and how aberrations in these patterns can lead to disease. She uses genetic approaches to discover key proteins involved in these pathways.
