Hugo J. Bellen, D.V.M., Ph.D.

Hugo J. Bellen

Dr. Bellen is also Professor in the Departments of Molecular and Human Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and the Division of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine, where he is also Director of the Program in Developmental Biology. He received an M.B.A. degree from the University of Brussels, a D.V.M. degree from the University of Ghent, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Davis. Dr. Bellen was a postdoctoral researcher in Walter Gehring's laboratory in Basel, Switzerland. He holds the Charles Darwin Chair in Genetics and the March of Dimes Chair in Developmental Biology.



RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:

Hugo Bellen is interested in the mechanisms underlying neurotransmitter release and in the molecular basis of early neural determination and differentiation. In addition, he is generating numerous new tools for the fly community.
