Roberto Mayor, Ph.D.

Roberto  Mayor

Dr. Mayor received a Ph.D. in 1990 in the field of developmental biology from the University of Chile. He went on to do postdoctoral work in the United Kingdom at the Medical Research Council, National Institute for Medical Research in London, and later he was a visiting professor in the United States at the University of Virginia and University of Oregon. He is now an associate professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Chile and conducts research at the Foundation of Life Sciences in Santiago. In 1996, he was named the Best Young Scientist in Chile by the Scientific Academy of Chile. He serves as president of the Latin American Society of Developmental Biology.



RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:

Roberto Mayor studies how extracellular signals and intracellular factors work together to control differentiation and migration of the neural crest cells, stem cell�like cells that are able to differentiate into tissues such as neurons, muscle, skin, and bone.
