International Courses and Workshops
These courses, supported and organized through HHMI's International Program, provide scientists from around the world with advanced training in their fields and an opportunity to network with others in the international scientific community. The number and types of courses vary from year to year.
Advanced Laboratory Training Course: Molecular Medical Mycology
November 22–29, 2009
Mahidol University
Bangkok, Thailand
Organizer:
- Alex Andrianopoulos, University of Melbourne, Australia
Fungal pathogens such as Penicillium marneffei, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Candida albicans are a significant health problem in many developing countries. Researchers require skills in the genetic manipulation of these organisms with the goal of understanding their biology and the molecular aspects of their pathogenicity.
This intensive course, given in English, will include lectures, group discussions, and wet lab experiments in the molecular approaches to understand the problems posed by medically important fungi. Hands-on laboratory training will likely include DNA-mediated transformation, gene deletion and replacement, mutagenesis and cloning strategies, host-pathogen interaction techniques, cell biological application to the study of fungal pathogens, and primers on database resources and bioinformatics. Lectures will be given by internationally-recognized experts in their fields.
Applications are no longer being accepted. Notifications of acceptance will be made by October 23, 2009.
