Luis G. Brieba de Castro, Ph.D.

Luis Brieba de Castro is research professor in the National Genomics Laboratory for Biodiversity of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute in Irapuato, Mexico. He obtained his B.A. from the Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM) Campus–Guaymas in 1993 and his Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he received the Armand J. Guarino Award for Academic Excellence in Doctoral Studies. He did postdoctoral work in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard University. In 2002 he was named a Pew Latin American Fellow in the Biomedical Sciences.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT SUMMARY:
Luis Brieba de Castro uses a multidisciplinary approach to understand the mechanisms of nucleic acid replication and transcription in the mitochondria. His goal is to establish links between defects in mitochondrial DNA metabolism and diseases.
