Alexander S. Apt, Ph.D., D.Sc.

Alexander S. Apt

Dr. Apt is the head of the Laboratory for Immunogenetics at the Russian Academy of Sciences Central Research Institute of Tuberculosis in Moscow, Russia. Both his Ph.D. (in 1984) and his D.Sc (in 1991) in immunology were awarded by the Gamaleya Institute for Microbiology and Epidemiology. He has received visiting scientist fellowships from McGill University, the Canadian Medical Research Council, and the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. He is a recipient of the 1998 Presidential Stipend of the Russian Federation and in 2002 was awarded a CRIG grant by the Wellcome Trust. His HHMI-funded project concerns the genetic basis for disease susceptibility to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
