New Health Science Major in Minnesota Redefines Interdisciplinary

An innovative new health sciences curriculum, spearheaded by HHMI Professor Claudia Neuhauser, is specially designed to integrate seemingly unrelated topics, such as biology and statistics or chemistry and ethics. Neuhauser and her colleagues at the University of Minnesota Rochester hope the courses will help students to make the kinds of intellectual leaps that will be crucial to their success in careers as scientists, doctors, even entrepreneurs. Mississippi high school teachers have teamed up with scientists at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Marine Biological Laboratory to design a high school biology curriculum focused on fire ants.
