In Memoriam: Frank William Gay
Frank William Gay, one of the original Trustees appointed by the Delaware Court of Chancery to oversee the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, died May 21, 2007, in Kingwood, Texas.
Mr. Gay served as a Trustee of the Institute from 1984 until his retirement in 2006, providing thoughtful guidance and counsel during a period of transformation and growth for the Institute. Prior to being appointed as a Trustee, Mr. Gay had served on the Institute's executive committee from 1971-1984.
A successful business executive, Mr. Gay held a number of different positions during his career and association with the Institute's founder, Howard R. Hughes, Jr. He was chairman of the board of directors of the Hughes Air Corporation; a senior vice president and member of the board of directors of the Hughes Tool Company; and president and chief executive officer of Summa Corporation. Mr. Gay was active on behalf of a number of organizations, most particularly the Boy Scouts of America.
