Anne M. Tatlock Elected Trustee of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Anne M. Tatlock, chairman and chief executive officer of Fiduciary Trust Company International, has been elected a trustee of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). She will become one of 10 trustees of the Institute, a medical research organization that is among the world's largest philanthropies, with scientific teams across the United States and an extensive grants program for science education.

Tatlock joined Fiduciary in 1984 as executive vice president and head of the institutional equity department. She became president in 1994, chief executive officer in 1999 and chairman in 2000. In addition to her management responsibilities, Tatlock plays an active role in the formulation of investment policy as a member of Fiduciary's two key policy-making bodies: its investment policy and global investment committees.

Tatlock graduated from Vassar College in 1961 and earned a master's degree in economics from New York University in 1968. Prior to joining Fiduciary, she was with Smith Barney & Company for 22 years, where she was first vice president and manager of the capital management group.

She is chairman of the Cultural Institutions Retirement System, a trustee and chairman of the investment committee of Vassar College, a trustee of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, a trustee and chairman of the finance committee of the Teagle Foundation and president of the American Ballet Theatre Foundation. She also serves on the boards of three Fortune 500 companies-American General Corp., Fortune Brands, Inc. and Merck & Co., Inc.

HHMI's scientists conduct basic biomedical research in laboratories located on the campuses of the 72 universities, academic medical centers and other U.S. research institutions with which the Institute collaborates. HHMI also has a grants program through which it supports science education at every level in the United States and the research of biomedical scientists in many foreign countries. Its headquarters and conference center are located in Chevy Chase, Md.
