The Research

As HHMI’s first free-standing research campus, Janelia Farm is a bold experiment in creating a new kind of scientific community—one focused on long-term, original research.

Janelia Farm is home to an interdisciplinary group of distinguished scientists from around the world. Working together, they are exploring two challenging areas of research:

  • Identifying the principles that govern how groups of neurons process information
  • Developing new imaging technologies and computational methods for image analysis

All lab heads are active bench scientists. Our researchers represent diverse backgrounds and goals, but they are united by their zeal to question, to challenge and to push. The same will hold true for our graduate students. Visit the Laboratories to learn more about the research in the labs of group leaders and fellows to guide you in decision about a mentor at Janelia Farm.
