Janelia Farm Program Development Report

HHMI's Janelia Farm Research Campus, which is now under development in Loudoun County, Virginia, will bring together biologists, computer scientists, engineers, physicists and chemists, and free them from many of the constraints that dominate more traditional research environments. Janelia Farm will be a unique center where scientists from around the world can work collaboratively to create and exploit the new tools of biomedical science.

This booklet describes the intellectual foundations of the Janelia Farm program; the approaches that HHMI is using to determine the scientific focus of the campus; and the philosophy that is guiding design of the campus, which will include a "landscape" laboratory building, conference facilities and transient housing for visiting scientists.
