This program has three components:

(a) a sophisticated 5-week total immersion advanced science enrichment summer program for 20 gifted and talented high school seniors, involving lectures, labs, and actual research;

(b) a year round Saturday morning Science Academy for 30 7th and 8th grade Cincinnati Public School students, each of whom is required to bring an adult lab partner (parent or other adult) with him/her to every session; and

(c) an 8-week intensive summer laboratory research experience for 6 Cincinnati middle and high school science teachers.

An HHMI grantee since 1994, this program serves a school district that is 70% minority. In a state in which only 23% of schoolchildren pass the state science exam, 100% of this program's graduates do so. And, in a school system where only 30% of 9th graders ultimately graduate from high school, 99% of the program's alumni do.
