Science Connection is a longstanding collaboration between Massachusetts General Hospital and the Timilty Middle School, a Boston public school that serves socially and economically disadvantaged students. The program includes Science Fair Mentoring, Science Family Activity Nights, mentor training sessions, co-teaching visits, teacher professional development, scientist-teacher partnerships and summer enrichment.

The goals of Science Connection are to enhance the science literacy of middle school students, develop their lifelong appreciation of science, improve their critical thinking abilities and motivate some of them to pursue a health or science career. The Science Connection programs are designed to enable the Timilty students to understand how to learn through inquiry and to enable their teachers and parents to facilitate the development of these critical thinking skills. Activities enlist the participation of a large number of scientists, clinical and administrative, at MGH and related institutions and enable them to share their expertise and methods with students and teachers: as mentors, co-teachers, and judges.
