In 1994 HHMI awarded UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School $175,000 for teacher training, student research, and the development of age-appropriate curriculum modules. The curricular sequence is animal behavior in grade 7, human behavior in grade 8, brain biology in grade 9, brain biochemistry in grade 10, and neuroscience in grades 11 and 12. The activities at each of these levels include teacher training, mentoring of teachers, classroom instruction, experimentation, guest lectures, student research, mentoring of students, and interdistrict colloquia.
