In 1994 HHMI awarded Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine $175,000 for the "SEA" bound Academy, a partnership between the School of Medicine and the Dunbar Project. It aims to improve science and computer science education in six schools of innercity Baltimore, grades 6 - 12, and to increase students' and parents' interest in science. The project has four components: (1) a Saturday Science Academy, (2) a Science Summer Scholars Academy to ease the transition from elementary to middle school and from middle to high school, (3) a Parent Academy to establish a network of parents who are both knowledgeable and involved in the project's science and technology efforts, and (4) program assessment.
