In 1994 HHMI awarded the university $175,000 to support two Summer Science Camps: a six-week camp for 25 to 30 seventh and eighth grade students who conduct science experiments under the supervision of four undergraduate students and a seven-week camp for 15 to 30 ninth and tenth grade students, also under the supervision of undergraduate students. The focus of recruitment is girls and underrepresented minorities. Follow-up activities continue through the academic year.
