The University of Chicago's Biological Division of the Biological Sciences and Pritzker School of Medicine proposes a multi-faceted program. The Saturday Seminar program brings high school teachers (and some of their students) together for a series of eight lectures each year by BSD and School of Medicine faculty. Following these lectures, up to 25 teachers participate in the Science Teachers Exchange Program, providing them with an opportunity to share teaching strategies and programs with one another, and plan how to implement what they have learned on campus in their classrooms.

With HHMI funding, two programs will be continued, improved and expanded:
1) AP Biology Labs and Summer Research Internships-- Through this program young people participate in hands-on laboratory experiences in the BSD and School of Medicine, benefiting from the exciting and rigorous science experience only possible in a biomedical research setting;
2) Community Outreach will provide journalists and theologians with an opportunity to improve their scientific knowledge and appreciation for the process, rigors and excitement of science. For both groups an enhanced understanding of biomedical science will allow them to communicate with their respective audiences-the public and parishioners-on important biomedical issues.
