Challenges
  • In response to increasing levels of requests from teachers and other users of our websites, we have been exploring how best to produce materials that can optimally be used on both computers (websites) and touchpad devices such as the iPad. It has been challenging for us to develop methods for developing animated, interactive materials that that work well on both platforms, and that are efficient in terms of production time (e.g., can be produced once and then exported to different platforms). We have finally developed methods that are working and are now producing materials using this approach (the technical details are too complex to include here).
  • We continue to receive more requests from within the University of Utah and across the country to collaborate on grant proposals and projects than we are able to accommodate. Although we have recently been able to increase our staff, we still need to carefully consider each request, and whether we have the time and staffing to carry out the project, given our current commitments.
  • We have not been able to present as many curriculum dissemination workshops as we had planned. Funding decreases for this and other projects have resulted in less staff travel to regional and national conferences to present workshops. Our solution has been to attend conferences with less expensive travel (e.g., ones that are nearby) and/or where travel is paid for all or in part by another entity.
