Challenges
  • Problem: A challenge experienced was finding adquate lab space and faculty available to work with the CAMMHS students during the summer. Answer: It is clear that there is a need to start the curriculum development and the securing of adquate lab space and available faculty and staff early in the program. Possibly staring at the beginning of the Spring semester if not sooner.
  • Problem: A challenge is assuring that there is adquate activities and work to prevent students from becoming periodically bored or disinterested in the summer program. Answer: This challenge can be addressed by identifying faculty and staff early and working with them to assure a full schedule of activities and experiments are available for the high schools students.
  • Problem: A challenge is the scheduling of tutoring and mentoring time; both of which are subject to the vagaries of the IUSM and CAMMHS students class schedules. Answer: CAMMHS made space available; however, more thought should be given to arranging a scheduled time for students to meet with their mentor/ tutor. Students should be matched based on schedules as much as possible.
