Challenges
  • The format of BOOST changed slightly over the past year, with monthly, organized Science Days as the main component of the program prior to individual coach-scholar meetings to develop science projects. This change was a positive one for the program, making it easier for parents and scholars to be consistently involved. Scholars said, ¿We got to see the whole group instead of only our small group,¿ ¿It kept the learning going. We didn¿t just stop,¿ and ¿It was a continuous learning process.¿ However, as with any change, Science Days need additional development to make them more engaging and relevant for the scholars.
  • Parents primarily expressed difficulties with some of the transportation and other logistical issues with BOOST, though this was minor. Other parents would like to see better communication with coaches and even greater coach involvement with scholars in future years.
