Challenges
- Turn over in long-time volunteer chair position. The former chairman was a strong African American leader which meant we needed to get visible leadership from that comunity in place to retain credibility. We were able to and we had a strong long-time vice chair take the chair's position and we elected a fresh leader to HSTA but seasoned veteran from the African American community into the position of vice chair. All is going well.
- Funding was short. We were able to get legislative support to pick up the shortfall starting July 1, 2007 so we're up to $1,500,000 from the state legislature for HSTA this year. Problem solved.
Resources
- The HSTA website, http://wv-hsta.org is a wealth of information on how HSTA is set up organizationally, with handbooks, applications and contact information.
- Curriculum to enhance the science education of 9th-12th graders is available from the HSTA website http://wv-hsta.org. Teacher hand-books, project ideas, curriculum, all accessible through this website.
