Outcomes, Challenges, and Resources

Outcomes
No data present at this time
Challenges
  • Designing a teacher friendly format for online science lesson demontrations. We developed an informal discussion template, in which two presenters discuss background science content, tips for working with students, and how to do each of the hands-on components of a lesson. The demonstrations are delivered as streaming video presentations on the web.
  • Adjusting to changes in school district science curricula. We worked with district science managers so that project participants would meet district requirements for science lessons.
Resources
  • BioEd Online website (www.bioedonline.org). BioEd Online provides streaming video presentations, annotated slide sets (downloadable), lesson demonstrations, curriculum materials, ready-to-go lessos, current science news and other resources for biology teachers nationwide. This free resource also is making professional development short courses available for teachers.
  • K8 Science (www.k8science.org) will debut later in 2008. This website will offer streaming video presentations, downloadable slide sets, inquiry lessons and units, current news and other features tailored for teachers who teach science in elementary and middle schools.
