Boston University School of Medicine
Outcomes, Challenges, and Resources
Outcomes
- Since 1992, 27,500 students have participated in hands-on, discovery-oriented investigations at CityLab or on the MobileLab.
- Since 1992, 1,580 teachers have attended CityLab workshops to learn how to conduct our seven laboratory investigations with their students.
- CityLab Scholars are a group of students who have attended our one-week summer biotech camp, participated in a year-long monthly seminar series during the school year, and culminate their experience with five weeks participation in a Boston Medical Center laboratory.
Challenges
- Our biggest challenge is to serve all the teachers and students who wish to have a CityLab experience. Although the CityLab staff has more than doubled during this grant period, we are still unable to answer all the requests for the Mobile lab and visits here to Boston CityLab.
- Funding is a challenge since it is a limiting factor in how much we can staff and serve the community.
- We have not had an assessment report during this past year. Our external evaluator could not continue with CityLab and we have not replaced her.
