Research Resources Program
Grants for Medical Schools
Under this program grants were made to help U.S. medical
schools sustain their commitment to biomedical research
amid major changes in the nation's health-care
system. Grants made to medical schools in 1995 and 1999
total $169 million. No further competitions under this
program are planned.
Grants have provided flexible support for research
infrastructure and the career development of basic and
clinical science faculty. Funding has been used for junior
faculty start-up packages, core research facilities
development and support, pilot projects, bridge funding,
and support for other activities to help medical schools
sustain their biomedical research efforts.
Jackson Laboratory
The Research Resources Program supports institutions that
serve the biomedical community as unique resources
laboratories, such as the Jackson Laboratory's transgenic
mouse resource program.
