European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO)
EMBO works with leading researchers to promote excellence in molecular life sciences in Europe. The Web page contains links to funding opportunities, courses and workshops, publications, reports, and other resources.
The Wellcome Trust's International Senior Research Fellowships
Five-year senior research fellowships in biomedical
science to be held in the Czech Republic, Estonia,
Hungary, or Poland. This opportunity is just one of
several offered by the The
Wellcome Trust, an independent research-funding
charity, established under the will of Sir Henry Wellcome
in 1936. The Trust's mission is to foster and promote
research with the aim of improving human and animal
health.
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
AAAS focuses on programs of scientific cooperation
in sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Central Asia
(including the countries of the former Soviet
Union), the Pacific Rim, and the Western
Hemisphere; and on global concerns of population
and sustainable development.
Civilian Research and Development Foundation for
the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (CRDF)
The U.S. Civilian Research and Development
Foundation for the Independent States of the
Former Soviet Union (CRDF), founded August 11,
1995, is a private, nonprofit charitable
organization created by the United States
government as a response to the declining state of
science and engineering in the former Soviet Union
(FSU). CRDF seeks to address this issue by
fostering opportunities for collaborative projects
between FSU and U.S. researchers.
Community of Science
Community of Science, Inc., links researchers
worldwide through the World Wide Web. The
company's products and services are designed
to meet the information needs of the scientific
R&D community. This large and active market
consists primarily of researchers at large
institutions such as universities, government
agencies, federal laboratories, foundations, and
professional societies.
The Foundation Center
The Foundation Center is an independent nonprofit
information clearinghouse established in 1956 to
foster public understanding of the foundation
field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and
disseminating information on foundations,
corporate giving, and related subjects.
International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)
IREX is a nonprofit organization founded in 1968
to administer academic exchanges between the
United States and the Soviet Union.
International Association for the Promotion of Cooperation
with Scientists from the New Independent States of the Former
Soviet Union (INTAS)
INTAS is an international nonprofit association
formed under Belgian law in 1993 dedicated to
promoting cooperation between scientists from
INTAS member states and the NIS. Its primary focus
is basic scientific research.
Canadian Institutes of Health Research
This is the major federal agency responsible for
funding biomedical research in Canada. Its role is
to promote, assist, and undertake basic, applied,
and clinical research in Canada in the health
sciences.
National Academy of Sciences
Congress established the National Academy of
Sciences in 1863 so that "... the Academy
shall, whenever called upon by any department of
the Government, investigate, examine, experiment,
and report upon any subject of science or art
...." The Academy now includes the National
Research Council, the National Academy of
Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine.
National Cancer Institute of Canada
Formed in 1947 on the joint initiative of the
Department of National Health and Welfare and the
Canadian Cancer Society, the National Cancer
Institute of Canada coordinates and correlates the
efforts of individuals and organized bodies with a
view to reducing the morbidity and mortality from
cancer.
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
The NIH mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead
to better health for everyone. NIH works toward the
mission by conducting research in its own laboratories;
supporting the research of non-federal scientists in
universities, medical schools, hospitals, and research
institutions throughout the country and abroad; helping in
the training of research investigators; and fostering
communication of biomedical information. NIH is one of
eight health agencies of the Public Health Service
which, in turn, is part of the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The Fogarty International Center
was established in 1968 to advance health through
international scientific cooperation and to serve as the
organizational locus for NIH international activities. The
National Library of Medicine
is a part of NIH.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
NSF funds research and education in science and
engineering. The
NSF International Division
enables and encourages U.S. scientists, engineers,
and their institutions to avail themselves of
opportunities to enhance their research and
education programs through international
cooperation. NSF also provides opportunities for
future generations of U.S. scientists and
engineers to gain the experience and outlook they
will need to function productively in an
international research and education environment.

Published by the American Association for the
Advancement of Science, Science's Next Wave offers
resources for the next generation of scientists.
Soros Foundations Network
The nonprofit foundations created by
philanthropist George Soros are linked together in
an informal network called the Soros Foundations
Network. At the heart of this network is a group
of autonomous organizations known as National
Foundations that operate in 31 countries
throughout central and eastern Europe, central
Eurasia, South Africa, Haiti, Guatemala, and the
United States.
