SUMMER MEDICAL FELLOWS PROGRAM
Research and Mentors

AREAS OF RESEARCH

As a Summer Medical Fellow, you are encouraged to seek out opportunities at HHMI laboratories outside of your own school, or at the Janelia Farm Research Campus. The summer experience gives you a chance to experience high-quality science in a basic, translational or applied biomedical research area that interests you.

MENTOR SELECTION

Your mentor must be a current HHMI investigator, HHMI early career scientist, or Janelia researcher and should have the time, interest and commitment to train you. Each mentor is limited to one Summer Medical Fellow applicant in the annual competition.

PROCESS

• review the lists of prospective mentors, below, and the research underway in their labs (e.g., via their Web sites, PubMed searches, etc.)
• contact investigators of interest
• investigator may request your CV and discuss your background, experience and interests
• If you and the mentor agree to proceed with the application, you will work together to develop the research proposal and complete other online application components
