Harvard Life Sciences/HHMI Outreach Program
This website contains video lectures, animations, and other resources for several life science topics explored at summer or fall workshops for high school teachers at Harvard University’s Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The topics include regenerative biology, stem cells, evolution, neurobiology and immunology. Animations, developed by professional animators based on storyboards created by teacher participants, are inspired by faculty lectures and explain selected topics for use in the high school classroom. The site also contains videos and PowerPoint presentations of current scientific research—such as “Stem Cells in Medicine” and “The Evolution of Cancer: Why We’re Not in Kansas Anymore”—presented by faculty from several Harvard departments, including those at its medical school. Teacher-developed lesson plans for most topics are also available.

- Curricular innovations that support the university’s review of the entire undergraduate curriculum;
- The Life Sciences-HHMI Outreach Program, a lecture and laboratory series on current biology topics that is designed to enhance the professional lives of high school biology teachers in a three-state area; and
- The ongoing development of BioVisions, a multimedia project that uses animations, such as the award-winning “The Inner Life of the Cell” animation, and videos to present biological processes and techniques in scientifically accurate but engaging ways.
